US ambassador is free to move around Oman's capital without bodyguards

OMAN is not the main destination for Malaysians to cut, buy, keep reciting or do business.

Although it is impossible to simply name the country, few know its location or know it well in relation to other travel destinations in West Asia.

The first answer is that Oman is nothing special, which is why the writer is in no hurry to visit an Arab country as he is sent there at the invitation of the Ministry of Information. Oman.

However, after a recent visit to the country, especially to the capital Muscat and the city of Salalah, the author realized that Oman is indeed unique and different from other countries.

Its particularity is not that it is rich in oil and gas deposits, on the contrary, it goes beyond the values of Arab cultural traditions and Islamic teachings in the development of the country, practicing the fundamentals of modernity and its uniqueness.

The architecture of the Sultan Qaboos Mosque is an attraction for local and foreign tourists.

As a result, Oman is one of the countries listed as safe, secure, peaceful and clean, allowing the US Ambassador to Oman to travel to Muscat without a bodyguard.

It's also hard to see the trash strewn over the sarongs, though teenagers strip down and stand out at the wet market. Most people wear traditional clothing to cover their genitals, and both men and women travel or work.

If you want to enjoy the hustle and bustle of city life, with high-rise buildings promising exciting nightlife like otherworldly highways, Oman is not the place for you.

Only those who want to enjoy and appreciate the beauty of nature and tranquility will find them in Oman, as the country is rich in interesting sites.

The author (right) at the fort of Ibra which was once a rampart protecting Oman from Portuguese attacks.

The mountains are huge, the expanse of the desert is dry, the camels are fishing, the wadis are green with palm trees, the sea is blue with good catches, the river is clear, and the remains of the Prophet's story are carefully preserved. .

From a distance, you can see the modern building and the old building, which has the same color of white and soft brown, although it is a luxury house owned by the wealthy.

Its people, who are 99.9% Muslim, are also warm and gentle in their speech and actions, belying the idea that the people of the Arab continent are made up of those who behave cruelly and savagely.

Women are also recognized, their rights in Malaysia are the same as those of men in the political, economic and social fields.

Unlike some other Arab countries, where women stay at home, women have had the opportunity to vote, hold high office, including in government, and drive cars.

With a small population of around three million compared to its land area, said to be the second largest in the Arab world, Oman is a great place for family vacations in addition to food gathering.

Because the salaries in this country are high, even if you work as a maid, maid or cleaning lady.

Unsurprisingly, this land has become a source of food for many people from developing countries like India, Philippines, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

They not only consist of lower class workers employed in sectors of no interest to the Omani people, such as construction, cleaning or hospitality, but also control the country's economy by engaging in various types of trades, such as real estate, real estate, hotels. and shopping centers.

The influx of foreign residents, who make up nearly half of Oman's population, often threatens the lives of local residents.

People in Oman still live in luxury and earn high salaries despite holding low positions in the secular sector. Most of them can afford to own luxury cars from brands that are not widely available in Malaysia.

In fact, the natives, including the desert-dwelling Bedouins, also have large carts like four-wheeled highways for easy travel, in addition to living in stone houses, at least two-storey houses.

Their wealth was the result of government subversion aided by Sultan Qaboos Said, who clearly did not isolate the common people after the luxury of harvesting their land.

People do not collect income tax, education and medicine are provided free of charge, on the contrary, the living expenses of disabled citizens are fully covered, so they do not have to understand the goodness of the house.

Because in the absence of close relatives, the responsibility of caring for these elderly people falls on the extended family. Their standard of living is also high, they spend a lot of time with their families because the working day in the royal sector is only between 7:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

This is one of the characteristics of Oman that cannot be found in other countries. Oman has convenient, modern and highly developed infrastructure like a major highway, but at the same time, its people are eager and proud to uphold the values of Islamic traditions and teachings.
